Incoming! Media Bias!

OK, WE GET IT. The corporate media does not like the application of military power by a Republican president. But like it or not, the destruction of bridges, power supplies and manufacturing plants is what armed forces do when an enemy refuses to surrender. It has been so since the application of gun powder. Before that, they laid siege and threatened to starve everybody to death.

An example of the converse is the thousands of lives that would have been saved in Vietnam on both sides had a president ordered such a bombing of Haiphong Harbor. If you are interested, there are web sites that show photographs of American soldiers who died as a result of White House reluctance.

There are no Queensberry rules in modern warfare, no padded gloves or three-minute rounds. Civilizations, regimes, administrations have no inherent right to exist, especially those that have sworn to destroy our own.

That this president would mention severe options was to state the obvious. The word choices? Awkward as usual from Donald Trump but hardly “insane,” as one congresswoman charged. In fact, it seemed to have accomplished what the Pope had ordered — a ceasefire.

Moreover, the Trump announcement of a resultant deal to open the Strait of Hormuz has reduced the oil futures price by almost 20 percent, one of the largest 12-hour reductions in history, the equivalent of a 75 cent to $1 a gallon drop in the price of gas (can you spell “affordability”?).

And yet, here is the headline the next morning on a story from the Washington Post:

“Trump’s Apocalyptic Iran Threat Paused War but Fueled Debate About his Credibility, Morality.”

Will the curators of newsroom orthodoxy ever give it a rest? — tcl
