Corporate Media on the Dock

HERE’S AN IDEA: Ask the Indiana Secretary of State to deny incorporation for newspapers owned by out-of-state entities.

Preposterous? Somewhat. The legal hurdles would be daunting. It might be interesting, though, to hear corporate publishers testify under oath how they are functioning mediums for the First Amendment.

If allowed as a friend of the court I would enter two pieces of evidence to the contrary.

The first would be the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette’s suggestion this week that when two unarmed members of the U.S. military are targeted and shot in the face only blocks from the White House by a Muslim on an overextended visa the response should be . . . wait for it . . . to withdraw the National Guard: “Hoosiers Deserve to Know Why Guard’s Deployment to Washington Is Necessary.”

The second would be an Indianapolis Star columnists assertion, also this week, that to oppose immigration is morally equivalent to using the playbook of the Ku Klux Klan: “New Anti-Immigration Group Is 1920s KKK Racism.”

I would then yield to objections but not before asking the judge to cancel his subscriptions. — tcl
