Andre Carson, Home-Grown Phony 

IT IS ODD that Seventh District Rep. Andre Carson hasn’t addressed this week’s arrival of South African refugees. — he is tight-lipped, you might say, not a peep. That is so even though he is outspoken on the floor of Congress, gratingly so, welcoming refugees of all circumstances and protecting their “rights.” But call his office and see if you can get a comment. We couldn’t.

A semi-black middle-class Indianapolis kid from a Baptist background, Carson rode affirmative action and a grandmother’s connections to a salary in politics. He read Malcom X one day and decided to bring Mohammed into his life, thereby synching with less than 1 percent of his apparently drunk or otherwise addled constituency. And if he isn’t a race-Marxist it is difficult to tell from his voting record.

Predictably, Carson has used his office to help bring in refugees from anywhere in the world regardless of political affiliation or willingness to assimilate (he doesn’t share American values, so why should they?) “We are and always have been a nation of immigrants, and our diversity makes us stronger culturally and economically,” is his specious replacement mantra.

But surely he must sympathize with farm families being hunted down by politically empowered gangs and chopped to death with machetes? Or be opposed to a one-party government that authorizes the confiscation of property on the basis of skin color?

OK, we are disingenuous. The South Africans are white and Carson doesn’t want them here for that reason alone (apartheid is not at issue). He certainly doesn’t want them in his district, wandering around demonstrating how discerning immigration policy works or what well-motivated foreign-born citizenship might look like. 

All of that is because Andre Carson is a dangerous phony, an embarrassment to the city of his birth and to his fellow Hoosiers who have afforded him such high status and envious lifestyle. If Indianapolis had a functioning democracy he would be out on his ear. — tcl
